Learn multiplication with objects – For this activity, you need to have either buttons, crayons or bottle caps, a pencil and paper. Suppose, you are teaching them to multiply 2 with 4. So, arrange the buttons in two boxes/circles of 4 pieces each. By giving a visual representation, children will be able to grasp the concept easily.

Give interesting word problems to children – If we teach children through simple stories, questions, or quizzes, they will eagerly listen and compete to give us the right answer. Word problems give them a taste of real-world situations where they calculate the amount or quantity of things. This will help them relate more and thus learn the calculations in a jiffy.

Learning Basic Division

If you have got past the multiplication sums with your children, it is now time to face the worst fears of division. There are many tried and tested methods to learn how to divide sums. But we must choose whichever is convenient for our children, as our primary aim is to make them understand the concept of division without boring them.

We can make them understand the concept of division by explaining it in terms of sharing. To divide sums means sharing things equally with others. For example, let us consider that a student brought 9 cookies to the classroom, which he wants to share equally with his 3 best friends. So, each of the friends gets 3 cookies each. Similarly, you can show how we can share 4 apples with 2 friends or 2 pencils with 2 friends. In this way, children will get an idea about how to divide sums.

Once they are familiar with the concept of division, it is easy to grab their attention to solve division problems through fascinating games and activities. By giving them a set of beads and tins, we can ask our children to divide the beads into different tins by giving them numbers. Through this, children will learn about diverse terms of division. We can also teach them about remainders through this activity.
